Our story
Raising Between Worlds exists for mothers navigating African values, UK culture, identity, belonging and everyday parenting decisions.
"I am because we are."
Many African diaspora mothers are raising children in a world very different from the one that shaped them. The village can feel far away, and parenting decisions can feel heavy when cultures meet.
We create spaces where mothers can share honestly, learn practically and feel deeply understood.
Dr Nomsa WaylandFounderDr Nomsa Wayland is the founder of Raising Between Worlds, a community created to support African diaspora mothers raising children in the UK while holding the richness of African values, identity and belonging.
Her work is rooted in Ubuntu: the belief that we become ourselves through relationship, community and shared care. Through Raising Between Worlds, Dr Wayland creates reflective spaces where mothers can be heard, find practical support and rebuild the village around them.
This work brings together cultural wisdom, thoughtful conversation and a deep commitment to helping mothers raise children who are emotionally well, culturally grounded and confident in who they are.
Everything we do is grounded in dignity, care and connection.
We are held by relationship, community and shared wisdom.
We listen without judgement and make room for every mother's story.
We turn reflection into tools, conversations and everyday confidence.
You do not need perfect answers. You need a safe space to think, feel, learn and be supported.
